there's a rather lengthy interview that I really enjoyed, it gets into his music making process, his obsession with music, his kids, etc

damn I've had it on repeat. crunchy, funky, love the drop-hang, especially in produk

the engineering on the last track is magical with good headphones as well, so much depth

I have only listened to this once front to back, but I really, really really enjoyed it.  Maybe the most I've enjoyed any Aphex record as a complete work.  He always has at least a few songs that irk me, but not on this one.

got about 4 songs in and i found it to sound kind of dated like the material is over five years old. i will listen to it again tonight to see if i like it better

it reminds me of brian eno's "small craft on a milk sea" in the sense that it's a musician who is past his prime just dicking around releasing a bunch of random songs

yeah he said in the pitchfork interview that's it all kind of old and he intentionally didn't put anything very "new" sounding on it but that there'd be more records to come.

I think that Syro is much more consistent and concise than that Brian Eno record you mentioned.

Small Craft is a good album. Really good actually. Yeah Eno is out of his element on a few tracks that are misses, but it also has plenty of killer stuff. I too used to think it's a weak release but the better tracks had me thinking there's something to it, and I started to get deeper into it overall.

I've only heard the 1st track of Syro and really dig it. Why isn't the rest on U.S. Spotify..??

im glad its all 'older' stuff and what he thinks is the best of the best instead of a flood of new-sounding shit right away.

stoked to digest this one

he explains it in the interview I posted.
he says he makes different styles and takes some of his favorites from each "pile"
you can tell by the track names that he has tons of variations of each sound, and it's not crazy to say he could have multiple thousands of songs he's created and never released

personally I'd like to hear more from his experimental pile, which apparently is his largest right now

Am I the only one who thinks this album flows very well and has a consistent tone throughout?  It's really not choppy or compilation-y to me at all.
