Yeah for sure.  If you haven't heard good kid, m.A.A.d. city yet, you're missing what I consider to be the best album of the 21st century so far.

Also to pimp a butterfly is very good.

I like that he reviews things that pitchfork won't, and has the balls to have opinions that pitchfork doesn't. I also think he's probably a pretty nice guy IRL and I'd have a few beers with him. That being said, his edits are annoying and I only watch full videos when I already care about the album he's reviewing. Mostly I just scroll to see the rating a leave.

I don't understand why people use someone else's opinion to guide their taste. just listen to stuff and form your own opinion

I don't think he guides me, but he's an interesting and thoughtful guy who makes me curious about his own opinion of things. Kind of like how Ebert was.

Reviews are great because they give the listener some idea of what they are getting into, but the best part is that you don't have to agree with reviewers. Form your own opinion after you've heard it. What's cool is that overall an album will generally reveal a critical consensus. Reviews can help help point out outstanding albums or help listeners discover new artists they like. If it weren't for hearing about reviewed albums I wouldn't have gotten into Kendrick Lamars new album. Same goes for getting into any new music. How did you know you wanted to dive into any new artist? You had to hear about them from someone or somewhere describing or "reviewing" the music. Reviews are only bad if a person judges music they haven't heard based on someone else's opinions without hearing it for theirself.

that's what I'm referring to, certainly there's people who subscribe to that guy's feed to get their music. it's limiting the scope of what's out there

True. I agree it's not good to heavily rely on one person or company.

Fantano is the homie. I like to watch his reviews of things I've already heard, and he usually recommends pretty good shit I haven't checked out yet. Also, Cal Chuchesta c'mon.

Mostly what everyone already said

Don't subscribe to him but def check on his reviews every so often

Usually I just like to compare his thoughts on albums I already have/heard

Don't use it for new recs cause he never plays the shit and he spends 10 mins talking about backstory and genre

He was on the Mick Jenkins long before I saw anyone else shouting him out, idk if he even reviewed his album

Generally though he seems to have pretty good taste

Heaps and mounds of praise/shitting don't sway me more than an album cover.

Sometimes I'll take chances on shitty covers but more often than not its what gets me to listen to anything.

Yooo that new Lapalux is up streaming.

http://www.dazeddigi...alux-s-lustmore

Definitely feels like a natural progression from Nostalchic. Hazy and groovy, but feels even more lush. A lot of great vocal features all over it.
