What's the meaning of "trilogy" here? As simple as three albums in a row by the same artist? Need there be a common thread, be it storyline, themes, etc?

I don't understand the criteria too well for some of these. But the very first suggestion in the thread of the three Nick Drake studio albums is the perfect suggestion I think.

But like Outkast definitely have more than just those three great/important albums, even if to many those three stand out above the rest.

The three Kanye albums are a pretty good call since they feel loosely thematically related and he kind of seriously fell off after those (as far as I'm concerned).

I'm trying to think of my own good suggestion but I'm floundering. Almost everyone who made three great albums made at least one other album worth mentioning.

Uh oh, I feel like I'm overanalyzing this.... on spring break now, must turn off...mathematical...brain!!

Yeah but their first three are superior. I love Stankonia but I don't think it is consistent as their first three.

threat title made me immediately think of those three waits albums since they have that overarching style and theme connecting them, figured it was more than just three albums in a row by a band

I guess I'm defining trilogy in this context as just three amazing albums back to back--particularly if they are the standout records of an artist's career (in the case of Can) or the only records of an artist's career (in the case of Nick Drake). Bonus points if those albums complement each other particularly well (in the case of BoC, Kanye, GY!BE).
