I saw a Boss Dr. Sampler SP-303 on craigslist for $200. I've always wanted a sampler and I hear the 303 is pretty good. I've fooled around with the 404 and the 555 before and thought they were pretty intuitive.

Does anyone know if $200 is a fair deal for one of these?

Anyway other discussion on samplers is welcome.

$200 is probably close to the best you're gonna see for a 303

i use the 202 and some old akai stuff mostly

Bought a SP404 today. Seems nice, but wish I for once in my life would read up before I buy something. There's this software you can use with the SP555 and the SP404SX, which makes sampling from you computer way easier. You just assign the .wav to which ever pad you want. Oh well, this will do.

Good contribution to thread +1

Yeah, cop the SP-303. I think they stopped making them, which in that case they will only get more rare and expensive.

don't get an mpc 500
it lacks a lot of features that i found to be essential to the mpc
i owned an mpc 1000 for a few years and loved it
ended up selling it because i needed the cash
they are wonderful machines

Unless I can find one for around 500-600 I won't be able to afford it. I've never messed around with a sampler before anyways, I'm sure the 500 is ok for beginners right?

See I was going to use my tax return, which is only like $1,100, to get a sampler, midi interface and a new field recorder. Think I might just go ahead and shell out for the mpc 1000 though.

So when using samples, would I have to get them cleared before I can use them on a tape?

So I got that mpc1000 I posted a link for, best musical purchase I've ever made hands down. It does need a little work, a couple of pads don't fire if I hit them a bunch, so it makes it kinda annoying when I'm laying down a beat, but other than that it works fine. Anyone know how hard it is to replace the pads or pad sensors? Is it something I can do myself with no knowledge or should I try and find someone who fixes up mpc's

I may post a short vid later of something I was working on earlier if I get a chance
