to map something you wana use to a key on your controller just hit the midi button on the top right. it should turn purple and then just click what ever you want to use and then hit the key you want to use for it.

Ableton is good for somethings like making really weird electronic songs, but I don't really like the way it handles real instruments.

What do you suggest for this?

PC = Cubase is your pretty standard DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and will get the job done. Also you'll learn a lot if your a beginner as its relatively easy to use.

Mac = Has to be Logic, its easy to use, thousands of onboard instruments and effects and you wont need anything else.

Ableton works wonders for me when I play shows and in the home studio. I can rearrange a few effects and sends and sync it up with my foot controller in a matter of minutes and do whatever I need to do. Aside from Renoise, its probably my favorite program.

However, it isn't the program.. its the plug-ins that matter:

livecut, scrubby, tapestop, amplitube, loopyllama, geometer, juicy77, etc. (go to kvraudio.com)

Its a really good VST host, so you can easily import a beat, set the tempo, do some quick beatslicing, and then add additional tracks and instruments on top of it.

Is there anyone that has had any problems getting their midi controller to work with Ableton live 7. I have tried a bunch of shit, and I just cant get it to work. I have an m-audio uno, usb to midi thing, and my midi keyboard, I use an old Kawai K1 as a controller, but my micro korg has the same problem as the Kawai.

When I plug in my stuff, I cant get it to make any noise, it registers the midi input, but no noise, then on the controller, I have to switch it to midi channel 16 to get noise. Then it will make noise, but it is really inconsistent, sometimes it makes noise and sometimes it doesnt, and the same key on the keyboard, will make a noise in a different octave sometimes, and on top of that, it doesn't register the release of the keys, so when I press one, it just keeps making the noise, even if I let go of the key. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it. I have been using a typing keyboard as my midi controller for the longest time with no problems, but now that I actually want to make my life easier, it is making it hell.

Oh, and the problem is not switching the port to MME, like the problem a lot of people have had, I already did that.

Hm.

Well I'm considering getting one, the only problem is space.

I don't have a laptop, and I can't fit even a small keyboard down here.

I guess it'll be fun to just toy around and make little electronica things though.

How do I fade in/out tracks on ableton

There should be a drop down menu next to each track on the bottom to control the Volume Level. And then use the drag and drop the dot technique to fade in/out to your liking.

And for real instruments, me and my friend use Reaper

Reaper gets the job done! :)

Though I prefer Adobe Audition, but that's not free.
