The thought of an AD140 just turns me into a drooling mess. Amazing amp man... hope you love it as much as I think you will!

My Orange is back up and running! The problem was a melted plastic connector for the heater wiring circuit. The cool amp repair dude replaced all of them with solder contacts and installed a small fan just behind the tubes to stop the air around them heating up and just sitting there - which it most definitely does, due to the case design.

Hopefully my amp will now run a bit cooler and it won't hurt to turn it off (no joke) and it won't have any more problems with stuff melting inside it (has happened before).

Can't wait to crank the shit out of it tonight with my new pickups! :D

just got my rockerverb 50 back with a similar issue, though the connections were just broken instead of melted. it's so good to have it back, now i actually kinda feel like playing guitar again.
just need to get some money for a decent cab now.

Anyone know anything about green amps? Do they have anything to do with orange?

Chino from Deftones uses one in here:

I think they look kinda sweet.

I've heard that the old Matamps and old Oranges were practically the same, but nowadays the schematics are different or something. I'm not sure.

yea matamp used to own orange, and make them under the name Orange Matamp Like So

However, now i believe Matamp produces their Green amps amongst other amps.

I wonder how hard it'll be to build an amp.

Depends on so many different factors. Have you worked with a soldering iron before? Have you worked with a PCB or any type of circuit?

Would you want the amp to be solidstate? or tube?

there are so many factors mang.

It's costly though, boy is it costly.

I've been soldering all the stuff on my guitars and pedals, and I have worked on circuits in pedals before.

I'm wondering about some tube amps. The level of difficulty seems to change depending on what amp, but if I do all the work besides the purchasing of boards, chassis, and etc., it seems like I can save a nice bit of money.

I'm completely inexperienced with amps though, and the whole thing generally kinda scares me off.

Yeah, I mean, if anything, when working on amps, you are working on lethal voltages.

It's hard to kill yourself modding a DS-1 haha :p

yea it depends if you are making a clone of an amp or something else. if you are good about collecting parts such as tubes and stuff you can make some pretty cheap small amps that sound amazing. i met a dude a few weeks ago who goes on a weekly scavenger hunt through all the antique and electronics stores around here looking for parts and then just builds amps and pedals with the scraps he buys.

it's hard to glean anything useful from the instructions, mostly it just berated me and told me that it gets terribly hot (duh)
although to match the intricate cartoon daisy-chain on the outside, there is an easter egg on the PCB. some day, mark my word.

The fucking fucker is 15 watts I believe, or 25. Not a lot of headroom. I looked into it a few days ago and only found 1 real video showcasing someone playing it, and fucking the amp for about a minute.

haha

Crazy fucking sound though, it's awesome that it has stereo operation.

Then again, who has 5000 to spend on a head that can't even handle a clean tone?

haha.

Trent Reznor apparently had one of his people buy one at NAMM one the spot. Crazy Trent ily.

But yeah, there is an easter egg on the PCB of my Toadworks Redux as well, it reads

"BALLS
BALLS
SWEATY
BALLS"

next to the LED, it's awesome

I'm getting a Jazz Chorus in less than a month thanks to my parents and my grandparents teaming up to put about $700-800 towards it for my birthday present. I have $200 in my pocket right now, so this is looking pretty great. Birthday is the 14th....I can't wait.

Be jealous of me.

i'm jealous
