Afta-1 is the moniker of Cali-born/Brooklyn-based beat-maker/ambient virtuoso Manuel Moran.

Fans of Flying Lotus might dig (as Moran is a Fly-Lo fan himself), but his shit isn't near as sporadic as Flying Lotus...his shit is like a soundtrack in space -- some space-colony shit where everyone is on drugs dancing/playing SEGA Genesis. Something like that.

I've been playing his debut 'Aftathoughts Vol. 1' on repeat since I got it (initially debut in Japan)...his follow up 7" 'The Time In Between' is really solid, too. Great music for chilling/absorbing in headphones.

Upped Vol. 1 to my page here.

This is sounding really nice, thanks. I feel like I'm sometimes hearing interesting things happening with the tempo, like the main beats and the other sounds aren't exactly synchronized, but then they always match back up at the beginning of the measure. Very cool.

Pluto Moon is a tight track...love the beat in Banilla Beans. That transition in The Facts is awesome.

he throws in just enough variety to keep it movin

LA Samba might be the standout for me, closes the album perfect imo

fans of this should check out Woodblue -- really chill Japanese ambient/trip-hop, link on my page still works:
