you guys are crazy. Rising Down is damn good, and i dont how anyone can be dissapointed with Game Theory...it's one of their best records.

The Tipping Point is the only one that isn't great.

It's not quite that I was.. disappointed with Game Theory. It had some good moments, but as a whole, comparing it to some of their other efforts, it wasn't that great of an album.
And same here Cochese, I listened to Illadelph after Rising Down, quite honestly Rising Down was just really.. shitty.
I agree with Cochese, I'm not just like 'oh old school' but in the case of The Roots they really have gone downhill.
Still love them though.
Never heard The Tipping Point, but I heard it was great.

On a side note, I never got into the Gravediggaz and still don't think they're that great.

i hated Jay Z for most of his career

i've finally come around to liking some of his stuff

i first gave him a chance when i heard that dangermouse remixed the White Album

he is one of the few talented emcees that i would group into that whole bitches and bling category

i was jammin some jay-z earlier.. i love the beat for U Don't Know, shit is bangin. U Don't Know II off the blueprint 2 goes so hard

and i decided All I Need might be my favorite song of his. nah probably not, i just love the feel of that track. The Blueprint is my favorite jay-z album... takes me back. reminds me of cruising around the burbs getting high as fuck with my old boy

Jay z is my favorite Emcee
every hip hop fan should have Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, The Black Album and American Gangster
No one has the presence that he has
None of the those albums are bitches and bling albums, he raps about street life and being a drug dealer and how great he is
I dont get why he dosnt get appreciated more

I can hardly imagine how Jay-Z could be more appreciated. He's pretty much a Top 3-er in terms of influence, wealth, etc., and has more than enough recognition in terms of actual musical talent.

Alot of people who only listen to underground think of him as dumb downed emcee and garbage

Mainstream media has a stiffo for him tho.

I personally find the super-mogul image a little bit bland, but I wouldn't mind that much if I consistently heard verses from him that just killed it or were otherwise imaginative. I guess most of the Jay-Z I've heard has been pretty-good.

Some of those songs in the last post were really good though.

North beach leathers, matching Gucci sweater
Gucci sneaks on to keep my outfit together
Whatever, hundred for the diamond chain
Can't you tell that I came from the dope game
Blame Reagan for making me into a monster
Blame Oliver North and Iran-Contra
I ran contraband that they sponsored
Before this rhyming stuff we was in concert
